Deadline

Applications for this position have closed.

Position description

The Operations Team at the Centre for Effective Altruism (CEA) is running an internship programme. We hope to host 1-4 promising recent graduates and current students from June to September 2022.

CEA aims to improve the world by supporting the growth and development of the effective altruism community. Effective altruism is a growing social movement dedicated to using evidence and reason to figure out how to benefit others as much as possible.

CEA is also the fiscal sponsor of 80,000 Hours, Giving What We Can, EA Funds, GovAI, Longview and the Forethought Foundation.

This is a great opportunity to gain professional operations experience whilst increasing your knowledge of the EA ecosystem. Through this programme, we hope to add capacity to the Operations team at an important stage of growth, whilst fostering promising operations talent within the community and identifying potential future full-time hires.

We are a small team with high standards.

The Opportunity

We expect that you will add value by taking on work that has a short on-ramp. This work may take the form of admin, research or analysis. Some rough examples of the type of work the internship may involve:

  • Analysis of user feedback data
  • Cost-effectiveness calculations for certain internal projects
  • Assessing third party products which may be used to streamline a process

This level of work will provide you with insight into the nature of operations work at CEA and the management of efficient systems. We expect this internship will be a great way to test your fit for operations type work.

Towards the end of the internship programme, there will be an in-person internship retreat where you will:

  • Take part in a ‘sprint’ project
  • Receive training from core team members
  • Co-work with the CEA Operations team
Who is suited to this role?

The ideal candidate will be:

  • Proactive
  • Eager to learn
  • Detail-oriented
  • Highly organised
  • A clear and friendly communicator
  • Mission-driven
Salary, Benefits, and Location

This is a full-time fixed-term position (3-4 months depending on your availability). If you are able to work out of CEA's Oxford office that is preferable but the internship can also be achieved remotely. There will be a one-week in-person sprint (location tbc) towards the end of the internship. We prefer applicants who are able to work in time zones between US Pacific time and Central European Time.

The salary is £3,500/month (assuming the role is based in Oxford).

Application Process

Applications will be reviewed from Mid April. The internship programme will start on the 14th June.

After considering your written application, we may invite you to complete a short trial task followed by further interviews.

We are happy to consider applicants from overseas. CEA serves a global community, and our team works with people and organisations all over the world. We are committed to fostering a culture of inclusion, and we encourage individuals with diverse backgrounds and experiences to apply. We especially encourage applications from women, gender minorities, and people of colour who are excited about contributing to our mission. We are an equal opportunity employer.
